Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan absorbs their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.
Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life…
My Thoughts:
If you have read and loved Maria V. Snyder’s Study/Glass books then you will definitely enjoy Touch of Power as well. The writing style and overall feel of Touch of Power is comparable to her other books and the characters have similar traits between the series as well. I think Touch of Power and Poison Study (see my review here) are just about tied for my favorite MVS book.
Maria is great at writing characters you will love and characters you will hate…and characters you have to learn to love. Touch of Power is no exception and has a nice mix of characters to love and/or hate. If you have not read any of her books yet, then what are you waiting for?!?! Just kidding...sort of ;) But really, Maria is one of my favorite authors and this book does not disappoint!

OOOHHH I've seen this book!
ReplyDeleteI was interested in reading it at one time. I wonder if it is still on one of my wishlists?
I've never read her, but I love books that are character driven. This sound great!
ReplyDeleteI would recommend starting with this book or Poison Study if either of you do decide to read her books.
