Good Luck & Happy Reading!!
I do most of my reading in bed, which is weird because 10 years ago I hated reading in bed - my partner corrupted me and now it's the best place.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when people crack the spines of books.
I also hate it when people read in the bathtub -- it totally freaks me out, I'm sure the book will land in the tub!
Yay for the 13th hour!
I like to read in the bathtub!
ReplyDeletereflectionsofabookaholic[at]gmail[dot]com
Habit One: Must have a blanket!
ReplyDeleteshanynlee at gmail.com
I never close my book until I'm done with it. I leave it laying open beside me until I return to it. I like my books to look a little battered and well-read!
ReplyDeleteI love reading used paperback books with notes in the margins. It's nice to see that a book has been lovingly used.
ReplyDeleteHabit Two: Having something to drink near me :)
ReplyDeleteshanynlee at gmail.com
I use random bookmarks like empty potato chip bags (gross I know)
ReplyDeletereflectionsofabookaholic[at]gmail[dot]com
Habit Three: Keeping track of the pages I read on Goodreads
ReplyDeleteshanynlee at gmail.com
I really read just about anywhere. When I am at home I am either on the couch or in my bedroom. I read two books at time and on every other day. I don't have an e-reader. I know this is a crime. I like to crack open my book and don't know how I would feel about just using an e-reader.
ReplyDeleteI must have a blanket when I read. (Habit 3)
ReplyDeletereflectionsofabookaholic[at]gmail[dot]com
I like to curl up on the couch under one of my quilts, my head on a pillow and my kitty on my chest while I read.
ReplyDeleteHabit Four: Flipping between ebooks and hard copies
ReplyDeleteshanynlee at gmail.com
I can't read with my phone near me, it makes me feel rushed. (Habit 4)
ReplyDeletereflectionsofabookaholic[at]gmail[dot]com
For each book I like to sit in a different room.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to read in a chair in my living room, leaning against the arms. However I'll also read in bed or in the bath when the mood takes me
ReplyDeleteIf it's a series, I buy it on my Kindle so I have them all with me!
ReplyDeleteI have a habit of reading 5-10 pages and then making a decision of whether or not I'm going to continue the book. If the first 10 pages don't make the cut, I get rid of it.
ReplyDeleteI read book ereaders and paper copies. (Habit 5)
ReplyDeletereflectionsofabookaholic[at]gmail[dot]com
Here's habit number 2: I use little stickies and mark passages. I write notes on the stickies because I NEVER write in my books!
ReplyDelete#1 I always have to have a coffee with my reading. It's not always the same (usually an iced mocha) - but I need some kind of coffee drink - black, espresso, tuxedo mocha, caramel macchiatto - yay!
ReplyDeleteroofbeamreader(at)gmail(dot)com
I must read in bed before sleep. No matter how tired!
ReplyDeleteI usually read in bed. Not under the covers or anything, just curled up on top like a tom cat.
ReplyDeletekate[at]parchmentgirl[dot]com
I like to try and read my books in chronological order (unless books I have to read for rays, reviews or challenges prevent me)
ReplyDelete#2 When reading at home - I almost always have to put on shorts, even in winter. I don't know why - it's just uncomfortable to "curl up" with a book while wearing regular pants/jeans. So, if it's cold, I'll just have a blanket and/or a hoodie with me too. :)
ReplyDeleteroofbeamreader(at)gmail(dot)com
When I can't decide what to read, I pick 5 books and read the first chapter of each!
ReplyDeleteI must have a blanket and my flax seed pillow all heated up (at least in the winter)
ReplyDeletekate[at]parchmentgirl[dot]com
Habit #3: I will not read more than one book at a time UNLESS one of them is non fiction. I am obsessive about finishing one book before I start another.
ReplyDeleteCoffee or cold water at my side at all times!
ReplyDelete#3 Similarly to having a coffee with me, I also always have something to eat - usually something like pretzels or crackers (sometimes not-so-healthy items, like cheez-its or cookies). I prefer crunchy snacks, though - something about the crunch breaks the silence of reading just enough for me.
ReplyDeleteroofbeamreader(at)gmail(dot)com
Denise who commented above is going to hate me, but my favorite place to read is in the bathtub -- it's always quiet and calming to read while in the bath.
ReplyDeleteI loathe folding the corners of pages to mark where I am in a book - I will use anything but that as a marker. AND I especially hate seeing those fold marks in library books!
Mary here in the central time zone where it's 7pm and I'm part of Chessie's reading team. Sometimes I like to read on the front porch when it's cool before the bugs come out.
ReplyDelete#3 I always use a proper bookmark. No dog-earring, no using old envelopes or receipts.
ReplyDeletekate[at]parchmentgirl[dot]com
I like reading in my room, where no one disturbs me =D
ReplyDeleteHabit #4: Even when I'm exhausted, I read in bed before turning out the light
ReplyDelete#4 I never, ever read sitting-up. I just don't like it. It reminds me of being in the classroom and being forced to read chapters for exams, while sitting in those horribly uncomfortable chairs. So, I either recline in a comfy chair or lay on my back/front on the couch, floor, or bed.
ReplyDeleteroofbeamreader(at)gmail(dot)com
#4 I'm usually in the middle of multiple nonfiction books at any given time, but I only read one novel at a time.
ReplyDeletekate[at]parchmentgirl[dot]com
and last but not least, habit #5: I cannot sit in Starbucks and drink a coffee drink without also reading my latest book.
ReplyDeleteHabit one: I often read on my deck, under the overhang so I won't get wet if it's raining. I switch from chair to chair depending on the sun's direction.
ReplyDelete#5 I update my Goodreads.com status constantly - to the great annoyance of my Twitter followers, I'm sure. I don't update after every chapter because, depending on the book that might be only a few pages, but I will update every 20 pages or so. When I'm reading a book that's 800 pages long - 20-page updates are probably lame, but oh well!
ReplyDeleteroofbeamreader(at)gmail(dot)com
I always hold my book in my left hand
ReplyDelete(HABIT #1) I can't read while listening to music in the same language I'm reading in. (for example: English book and English music don't mix, German book and German music don't, German music and English book do.)
ReplyDelete#5 When I'm reading in bed I always read lying on my left side if I'm toward the end of a book and on my right side if I'm closer to the beginning. That way I'm holding up the lighter side of the book.
ReplyDeletekate[at]parchmentgirl[dot]com
forgot to add my email address:
ReplyDeletedragonflyy419ATgmailDOTcom
My favorite place to read is in bed, but I'll take my leather couch as second choice
ReplyDeleteHabit 1: Reading in public--I love reading in libraries, coffee houses, restaurants, etc
ReplyDeletegradhgaelmochridhe[at]gmail[dot]com
I don't mind spine-crackers but I cannot stand to find books in the bathroom -- G-R-O-S-S!!!!! Can't be sure if hands were washed or where the book ended up.
ReplyDeleteHabit two: I like my spines creased (though not cracked), and I go out of my way to ensure my paperbacks end up with nice, even spine screases (that do not turn into cracks).
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHabit One:
ReplyDeleteI like to read in an armchair by my fireplace.
Habit 2: because I read in public a lot, I have downloaded brown noise from simplynoise.com As a friend of mine says "it's like Adderal for scholars."
ReplyDeleteI read in my bed mostly unless I'm in the car.
ReplyDeleteI hold my book in me left hand.
I mostly read paperbacks because their easiest to buy, but, I also read on my e-reader.
I HAVE to read at night! (unless I'm in the car) because I need almost complete quietness to concentrate on my book because I dream up the characters in my head while I'm reading what they do and so i act it out in my brain. I know it may sound dumb to some people but that's what I do. :D
Email: lvail@hughes.net
I don't have to hold my book in a particular hand but I do read better sitting up--I tend to doze off quickly no matter how good the book if I try to stretch out.
ReplyDeleteHmm, a habit... I whisper books aloud to myself if they're particularly well written. (Due to my synaesthesia, if they're well written, they tend to taste nice. The Hobbit, for example, tastes of toffee and fudge.)
ReplyDelete(HABIT #2) I obsessively update my Goodreads whenever I pause my reading, even if it's just to get a drink. But also only when I'm reading near the laptop, otherwise I don't bother. (so today is a huge exception!)
ReplyDeleteHabit three: when I read in bed, I must always lie on my right side, with the book in my right hand.
ReplyDeleteHabit Two:
ReplyDeleteI usually have 3-5 or more books going at the same time.
Habit 3: No matter what I'm reading for work/school/teaching/challenges I always have to have a "fun" book on hand too, lest I forget why I'm doing this
ReplyDeletegradhgaelmochridhe{at}gmail{dot}com
Habit #1: I always read more than one book at a time.
ReplyDeleteI don't like to know too much about a book before reading it, so I avoid reading the dust jacket.
ReplyDeleteHabit four: I always keep a pen handy when I reread my favourite books, since I underline new things every time. (And yep, I underline in pen. I'm rather awful.)
ReplyDeleteHabit Three:
ReplyDeleteI must have an audio book going in the car at all times when I am driving by myself.
(HABIT #3) I always hold the book in my right hand. The left is usually behind my head/holding my head up.
ReplyDeleteFirst habit: I sprawl out on my bed on my stomach and use my right hand to hold my book down. It's my favourite way to write ever. Though it does hurt the elbows after a while.
ReplyDeleteDrat, forgot to add my email. thebrightspark[at]gmail[dot]com.
ReplyDeleteHabit #2: I always have an audiobook going at home and a different one going in my car.
ReplyDeleteHabit 4: I almost always have multiple books going at one time. One for the dissertation, one non-fiction, and a couple of fiction
ReplyDeletegradhgaelmochridhe[at]gmail[dot]com
I hold actual books with both hands, but I really want one of those reading pillows on Amazon...you know the one that looks like a pyramid. I hold my Sony Reader with one hand and turn the page with my thumb.
ReplyDeleteI get up every weekday morning and after I shower, I make a cup of tea and I sit and read for about an hour before actually getting ready for work.
ReplyDeleteHabit five: I don't read jacket copy. I might skim it for keywords, but I find most summaries corny and misleading. I've found I enjoy the book more if I haven't read the marketing stuff.
ReplyDeleteHabit Four:
ReplyDeleteI must mix YA and adult books and mix different genres as well or I get bored easily.
Habit #1: I love to use bookmarks. I cannot stand wrinkles on my book pages, specially folding ones.
ReplyDeleteDeborah @ThirtyCreative
thirty.creativestudio@gmail.com
When I read, I lay my bookmark on my chest...LOL! Yes, there's a lot of room there. =O)
ReplyDeleteHabit One: I love caressing the book cover and smelling the pages before I begin to read a new book.
ReplyDeletemyra(dot)bacsal(at)gatheringbooks(dot)org
(HABIT #4) Even if I haven't read the first book of a series yet and so don't know if I'll even like it, I usually buy the entire series with it. I'm obsessive about stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteHabit 1: I carry a book everywhere I go whether its an actual book or a my Kindle
ReplyDeleteHabit #3: I have to have lots of unread books on hand (including at least one paperback in my car) for when I finish a book. I'll never know what I'm in the mood for next and I never want to be without a book!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bookmark collector and I always pick a special bookmark for each book. Most of the time I at least try to match by theme.
ReplyDeleteI'm addicted to Project Gutenberg - I love having all of the classics free and at my fingertips. My kindle is filled with books from there.
ReplyDeletedragonflyy419ATgmailDOTcom
Habit Two: for some reason I always always lose my bookmarks. I never get to use them twice.
ReplyDeleteI typically read in my bedroom lying in bed right before I pass out from a long day. Otherwise, you can find me in my favorite corner of the couch all curled up with my critters.
ReplyDeleteI hold my kindle with both hands...same with my DTBs.
For shudder!!!! No cracking of spines! Ahh my toes curl! lol
sparrow(dot)helena(at)gmail(dot)com
Second habit: if I'm reading in my room, I always have to have the window open, with no music or sounds but those from the outside. No exceptions. :)
ReplyDeleteMy only consistent habit is to have a beverage, usually water, on hand. I always need something to drink. Otherwise, I will read anywhere - in bed, in a chair, on the floor, with music, in silence, whatever. I go with my mood. If I'm comfy and hydrated, I'm a happy reader.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time I read in bed or the bathtub.
ReplyDeletejcoull@bellsouth.net
Habit Five:
ReplyDeleteI always carry a book with me in case I can grab a few extra minutes of reading.
I hate noise and distractions when I read so really struggle to read with the TV on.
ReplyDeletejcoull@bellsouth.net
If I really need to retain what I'm reading, I read aloud. It has always helped me to remember better.
ReplyDeleteHabit 2. Ever since I was little I've loved reading out loud to myself. It helps me focus and get into the book a bit more. In fact, when I was a kid mom had to teach me that it was impolite to read out loud when others were in the room or I was in public.
ReplyDeleteHabit Three: I read more than three books at once. Picture books, YA fiction, and some adult novel I got bored with and stopped reading altogether.
ReplyDeleteHabit #2 - I just found my new favorite reading spot, the chair I am currently sitting in and makeshift foot rest. It shall be my home for the next 12 hours.
ReplyDeleteHabit #4: I have a have a highlighter near by. I never highlight borrowed books or anything, but I love to be able to refer back to quotes that I love in books that I keep.
ReplyDeleteI usually have three books going at once (mystery, supernatural, general).
ReplyDeletejcoull@bellsouth.net
Habit 3. I love going for a walk and reading at the same time. I usually just hop on the treadmill to walk so I don't have to worry about dodging obstacles.
ReplyDeleteHabit #3 - I prefer an actual book over reading on my iPad any day ... nothing beats the smell of a book - old or young.
ReplyDeleteHaha I totally flinched when I read that your friend likes to crack the spines of books. I never thought about my book habits before. Let's see...
ReplyDeleteHabit #1 - I can only read one book at a time.
My absolute favorite place to read is in the bathtub.
ReplyDeleteI pick the books out that I want to read for the year at the end of the old year/beginning of the new one and keep them in a box. I try to mainly read from that box.
ReplyDeletejcoull@bellsouth.net
I go to two different libraries for my books, usually if one doesn't have what I want the other does ... I'm lucky that I'm able to have library cards for two separate libraries (one county & one city).
ReplyDeletedragonflyy419ATgmailDOTcom
Habit Four: I like reading in bed. I find they're the perfect bed companions. They don't snore and would continually amuse you.
ReplyDeleteThird habit: I can only read paperback books. Kindles/e-readers hurt my eyes and feel too fake, and I can't bend hardcovers and it drives me insane. Picky, I know. :)
ReplyDeleteMy habit #2 is reading in the cafeteria during my lunch break at work. I used to stay at my desk, but heard that it was bad for me, so now I go and read for half an hour.
ReplyDeleteI NEVER step outside the door with out at least one book at hand.
ReplyDeleteHabit #2 - I always read on the couch. Although if I read for long enough I switch it up and lay in bed and read.
ReplyDeleteHabit 4: I'm addicted to tracking my reading and discussing books. I use goodread.com for most of that
ReplyDeletejessica.lee.ballard[at]gmail.com
Habit #4 - Something I inherited from my mom, I love waking up early on the weekends and laying in bed reading until I feel like I should do something productive.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite reading position is laying down. However our new couch has a chaise section and that's not too bad either!
ReplyDeletejcoull@bellsouth.net
#3: I like to read books on my Ipad on the elliptical trainer at the gym. I also sometimes reward my working out by reading "guilty pleasure" reads while I work out.
ReplyDeleteHabit Five: I loooove looove libraries. I usually enjoy reading in the children's section (despite the noise) and sitting in those kiddie chairs while I read and type my thoughts about a book. Yay! Completed the five habits. Thanks for hosting the challenge. =)
ReplyDeleteI don't have a preferred reading spot, depends on what time of day...I read while eating my breakfast, in the bathroom, outside in the sun, on the couch in the living room with the lamp and TV on, or on my bed. I prefer to hold my book with my left hand so I can drink my coffee or w/e with my right hand. I'm very careful to not spill or bend any pages and I NEVER crack the spine, in fact I barely BEND it!
ReplyDeleteMy cats like to shove my books out of my hands when I read so I've become adept at swatting them away with books.
ReplyDeletedragonflyy419ATgmailDOTcom
Habit #5: My favorite place to read is in a comfy chair in my library at home.
ReplyDeleteFourth habit: No matter where I go -- from job interviews to the mall -- I always have to have a book on me, just in case I get the chance to read for a few minutes.
ReplyDeleteI have a nice little arm chair with an ottoman that I always sit in to read. It's very comfy!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's okay to add my email to only one of the comments. I forgot on the others.
truebookaddictATgmailDOTcom
Habit #3 - I LOVE a good cup of English breakfast tea. It depends on how long I read but I'm talking multiple cups.
ReplyDelete(HABIT #5) I like smelling books before and after I read them.
ReplyDeleteHabit #5 - Book journal and binder! I am constantly updating my list of books read, books I want to read, author collections, book lists from other people, anything that I can slowly cross off and find new stories and adventures in.
ReplyDeleteHabit #1: I always have one caffeinated drink and a glass of water when I read.
ReplyDeleteamongstories@yahoo.com
Habit 5: No matter how bad the book, I can rarely get myself to quit it. I always just hope it gets better in the end.
ReplyDeletejessica.lee.ballard[at]gmail[dot]com
I am obnoxious to the extreme of having books in a series matching. I don't mix hardcovers and paperbacks nor do I like mix different editions.
ReplyDeleteHabit #4 - I have a book with me at all times and will even read when I'm waiting in line or at red lights or even at the grocery store or walking to class.
ReplyDeleteIt's impossible for me to read just one book at a time. I always have at least two books going at once.
ReplyDeleteI recently borrowed a Kindle and my one pet peeves is that they don't have page numbers. I apparently like knowing what page I'm on in a book.
Habit # 2: I remove the book jackets. I prefer paperbacks!
ReplyDeleteDeborah @ThirtyCreative
thirty.creativestudio@gmail.com
I read either in bed, in a reclining chair, on the sofa, or anywhere I have to wait (in other words, I'll read ANYPLACE!)
ReplyDeleteI usually sit in the same chair.
ReplyDeleteA green Queen Anne chair.
Habit #2: My favorite ways to read are sitting indian style and lying down on my left side.
ReplyDeleteamongstories@yahoo.com
I often have a cup of tea at hand.
ReplyDeleteI usually put my feet up with my Steelers blanket over me (in the winter) with my kitty on my lap.
ReplyDeleteHabit # 3: I look at the book top to see how much I have left. I normally read faster halfway to the book.
ReplyDeleteDeborah @ThirtyCreative
thirty.creativestudio@gmail.com
I usually have something to drink - coffee or wine (not during the R-A-T though, makes me sleepy!)
ReplyDeleteI only buy poetry in used bookshops. New poetry books doesn't have the right feeling. (I am overjoyed about my recently bought old edition of Neruda. Lovely!)
ReplyDeleteHabit #3: I always buy mass market paperbacks when I can because they're cheaper which means I can buy MORE books. =]
ReplyDeleteamongstories@yahoo.com
I almost always read during the commercials while watching TV.
ReplyDeleteYep! I have to lie on my right side with the book in my right hand at the top of the book . . . .I can't concentrate if I lie the other way LMAO
ReplyDeletekerryannmcdade65@yahoo.co.uk
Even if I spend the entire evening reading I have to read a bit in bed, after brushing my teeth and such, to be able to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI am usually drinking a chai latte when I read.
ReplyDeleteHabit 1 - I have to have a book on the go at all times otherwise I feel lost. I have 1 at home, which goes pretty much everywhere with me. I also have one at work
ReplyDeleteI read wherever and whenever, but my favorite is curled up on the couch under a blanket with a cup of coffee.
ReplyDeletecarolsnotebook at yahoo dot com
Habit #4: I always carry a minimum of two books with me, though I generally have four so I have something to read no matter what mood I'm in reading wise.
ReplyDeleteI mostly read on the couch but we have a giant lovesac that's perfect for reading.
ReplyDeleteI do most of my reading while lying down in bed. It's so much more comfortable that way.
ReplyDeleteI prefer reading while lying down.
ReplyDeleteI am one of those evil people that dog ears books. I also underline sentences or whole passages that do something to me. Be it a happy or sad emotion. Or just something that makes me smile or cringe.
ReplyDeletein my defence, i value words, not books :]
but ebooks just would be right for me. still has to be a book i can mess around with. xD
Bad habit - I tend to dog ear pages.
ReplyDeletecarolsnotebook at yahoo dot com
I own a kindle, and tend to hold it in my right hand. Which frustrates me when I want to go back a page, because there's no 'Previous page' button on the right hand side of the device.
ReplyDeleteI need a quiet reading place to focus properly.
ReplyDeleteI need a bookmark when I read. If I can't find one I will carry the book, finger marking my place til I can find one.
ReplyDeleteHabit #5: I dislike wasting time sitting in waiting rooms and in traffic, so when I'm stuck with either of those I always pull up a book on my Blackberry to read to pass the time.
ReplyDeleteamongstories@yahoo.com
Habit 1: I read in my bed with a cup of coffee sitting next to me and I never even take a sip of it.
ReplyDeletebookslikebreathing(at)gmail(dot)com
I tend to switch hands with a book, but hold my Kindle only in my right hand.
ReplyDeleteHabit 2: I carry the book with me until I finish it.
ReplyDeletebookslikebreathing(at)gmail(dot)com
Habit 3: I am a spine cracker I must admit. I feel bad every time.
ReplyDeletebookslikebreathing(at)gmail(dot)com
Habit 2 - I read the first few pages of a book, and then I always turn to the end and read the last few pages.
ReplyDeleteHabit one: I cannot read lying on my stomach because I cannot hold up my head comfortably.
ReplyDeletekathrynlouw@gmail.com
Huh, this is surprisingly tough! The one that's most unusual, maybe, is that I like to read right in front of/next to a heat vent or heater.
ReplyDeletepenrynsdreams at gmail dot com
Habit 4: I need background noise. I cannot read in silence.
ReplyDeletebookslikebreathing(at)gmail(dot)com
Habit Two: I like to read sitting at a table so that I can rest the book on the table and read more comfortably.
ReplyDeletekathrynlouw@gmail.com
Habit 5: I hold my book with my right hand and turn the pages with my left.
ReplyDeletebookslikebreathing(at)gmail(dot)com
Habit 3 - I never bend the spine, in fact I never deface the book in any way. If I am reading a new book, sometimes it looks just as new when I am finished.
ReplyDeleteThis is my book habit, although it's really more of a compulsion, like an OCD thing. I constantly have to stop and flip through the pages I've read, then flip through the pages I have left to read. I check page numbers -- how many pages total, how many I've read, whether the book starts on page 1 or 3 -- and then I flip through the pages again. It takes up a lot of time that could be spent reading, but it's a minor obsession, so there you go.
ReplyDeleteravingheretic@gmail.com
Habit Three: I never feel compelled to finish a book, and I have been known to put down a book with only five pages left.
ReplyDeletekathrynlouw@gmail.com
Habit Four: I can never read when there are distractions around me, so reading in waiting rooms or other such places is impossible for me.
ReplyDeletekathrynlouw@gmail.com
Habit 4 - I like to have coffee/tea with me when I read
ReplyDeleteHabit 1: Like to have quiet, but can write with noise.
ReplyDeleteHabit 2: Write on my computer.
Habit 3: Sitting at my desk chair.
Habit Two: I like my books to look worn and often-read, so I'll frequently bend paperbacks into circles and fan the corners. I especially like the look of water damage, provided the book still holds together and is readable. I don't purposefully dunk them in water, but if I spill a little ice tea, I don't rush to clean it up!
ReplyDeleteravingheretic@gmail.com
Habit 5 _ I have been known to read and knit at the same time.
ReplyDeleteHabit Five: I prefer to be reading around 5-10 books at one time, not just one book at a time. And yes, I can keep all of their plots separate.
ReplyDeletekathrynlouw@gmail.com
Habit #1: I have to have 4 books at one time, going. One cozy mystery, generally one autobiography/biography, one how to or informational type book, and then a romance or horror or whatever random book I grab.
ReplyDeleteI usually have multiple books going at a time -- one that stays in my purse (I never buy purses that aren't big enough to hold a book), one by the bed, and an emergency one in the car. Since there are bookshelves in every main room of my house except those with plumbing, I also can grab any of those that I might need.
ReplyDeleterenin40733@mypacks.net
I can only have 1 book going at a time.
ReplyDeletekimmery4(at)yahoo.com
Do you have a favorite reading chair or room? Yes, my comfy couch in my living room
ReplyDeleteDo you always have to hold your book/ereader in a certain hand? No; I usually hold it in both to get to the pages since I don't like cracking spines.
ReplyDeleteI tend to read more than one book at a time - I don't have a reader, but I do have Kindle for PC and Adobe Digital Editions, so I generally have one going on each of those, and either one or two print books (if two, one is usually a non-fiction book and the other fiction)
ReplyDeleteBecause I do a lot of review books, I try to alternate between a review book and then one from my personal reading pile
ReplyDeleteI sometimes read a little bit a head if the suspense becomes too great!
ReplyDeletekimmery4(at)yahoo.com
Habit #2: I keep an index card in each book as a bookmark, and I put a little mini calendar on it and make sure I read a certain amount of pages per day. I keep little notes about the book on the index card to refer back to when completing challenges. If I am reading a Kindle book I do the same thing, but tuck the card in the back of my Kindle cover. Most of the time I have five or six cards stuck back there!
ReplyDeleteI usually read in bed. In nice weather I'll read outside, with a big glass of iced coffee or iced tea nearby.
ReplyDeleteHabit #3: I keep a book with me while watching TV and read during commercials.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place to read is in my bed--but today, oddly, I have been more comfortable in wing back chair.
ReplyDeletekimmery4(at)yahoo.com
Habit #1: Must hold book in right hand.
ReplyDeleteawakeninglisa{at}gmail.com
Habit one: It really bothers me when people crack spines so I try my hardest not to.
ReplyDeletedanie22090@yahoo.com
Habit #4: I keep lists of all the series I read on my computer so I know what to purchase next or request from the library.
ReplyDeleteHabit #5 - This is a new habit. After every chapter I read I update the status on my Goodreads account. Unless the chapters are short. So I guess every 20-30 pages I update it on Goodreads.
ReplyDeleteBecause we don't really have a break room at work, I sit in my car each day and read during my break.
ReplyDeletekimmery4(at)yahoo.com
Habit two: I usually sit in a specific position. Feet curled up under me, leaning on the arm of a chair/couch.
ReplyDeletedanie22090@yahoo.com
Habit #2: No noise. Can't read with the tv or music on. (right now this means I have to move to my bedroom to read since the neighborhood kids are out front)
ReplyDeleteawakeninglisa{at}gmail.com
I never seem to have a pen or highlighter handy, out of desperation find myself marking passages by bending down the corner of a page! (I know...shocking!)

Habit three: Right after reading a book, I have to tell someone about it. Luckily, my fiancee is a good listener, and will have full in-depth conversations about my book with me, even though he isn't much of a reader.

When I read, I always have to have a pen in hand to take notes in the margins. It is a MUST.
ReplyDeleteHabit #3: Log all books into a database and on GoodReads. The database helps me keep track of what I own & if I've loaned and to whom.

Habit four: I have to read a series in order, starting at number one. I can't start at number four and then go back and read number one.

I get anxious if I'm not in the middle of a book. No matter what time it is if I finish a book I have to start another one. Have been known to do emergency book shopping to fit this habbit.
ReplyDeleteI have lots of fancy bookmarks. What I generally use is a square of tp folded in half.

Habit five: (Not really sure if this is a habit, but...) I love love love it when someone plays with my hair while I'm reading. I'm not sure why.

I read on the couch in the spot where there's the lamp. I also read on the subway.
ReplyDeleteI never bend or damage the spines! This is a huge no-no for me!

Habit #1: I usually read curled up in my bed or on the train commuting.

Whether with a paperback, hardback or Kindle (or iPhone), I love reading in bed. Of course this has been problematic with this read-a-thon. If I were to try to read in bed, especially at the 13th hour (2:48 a.m. for me), I'd ... well, I wouldn't be reading ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
ReplyDeleteHabit #4: Have a list of the books/series/editions I'm looking for on my phone. I'm collecting a lot of older books so I need the list when in used bookstores or antique stores.

Habit #2: I can not read in the bathtub. I envy people who can, because in my mind it must be incredibly relaxing, but when I tried it I was dead scared of dropping my book into the water.

Habit #3: I switch book hands with my position

Habit #5: Always have a bookmark. Side note: I won't loan books to anyone who folds the corners or their pages. ;)

Habit 1: I always need to have a bookmark. No dog-ear pages for me. I buy and make them. Could never have enough bookmarks! :)
