5 Bad Bookish Habits

I’m starting to realize that I have some bad bookish habits…or maybe I’ve known about them all along and was just in denial? Yeah, the second one seems much more likely since it was entirely too easy to come up with these five habits.

1. I get excited for new books and preorder them…and then don’t read them for months after they have released.

2. I have problems continuing series even if I loved the first book or two. A fantastic example of this is Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series. I’ve read the first three books but I’m avoiding book four for no real reason. This irritates the heck out of a certain friend of mine!! I will admit that Evil Jen gets a teensy bit of enjoyment out of this.

3. I collect bookmarks but rarely use them. I guess I like to look at the pretties but don’t want to risk them being damaged. If it wasn’t a ridiculous idea I would consider putting bookmarks in all of my ‘short list’ books so they’re ready to go when I grab and run. That would require A LOT of bookmarks though since my ‘short list’ is an entire bookshelf with overflow onto a second bookshelf. Which brings me to my next habit.

4. I buy entirely too many books. More than I will ever be able to read. It’s debatable if this one is actually a BAD habit.

5. I procrastinate. A Lot. When I sign up to review books I usually wait until the week before my post date to read the book and a lot of times you’ll find me finishing my review and formatting my post 10pm the night before it’s to go live. Really, this could be the root of the problem with numbers 1 and 2 as well.

What bookish bad habits do you have?

  1. I'm glad I amuse you. NOW READ ORIGIN, DAMMIT. :)

Oh, and I agree that buying too many books is not a bad habit. If I were to admit it WAS a bad habit, I'd have to accept that one myself. And I refuse to do that.

If I had to list one of my worst bookish habits, it's reading too many books. Because, I usually don't write my reviews immediately upon completion, so when I finally DO get around to writing my review, it's hard to remember what happened. I sometimes get my characters and plots confused with other books I've read in the meantime. Oops.

Reading too many books is another one of those debatable habits.

    2. Omg, Krista! I'm so guilty about waiting a long time to write my reviews! My memory is not what I'd like it to be either, so it ends up taking twice as long to write up. Lol

  2. Number One. YES. I am so guilty of this too! And number two! But mainly, I have a bad habit of finishing the LAST book. I just get too scared! Because I don't want the series to end, but I also don't want it to suck and ruin the entire thing for me lol.

And I totally have all my GReep bookmarks hanging up and not in books lol. They're too special and pretty for me chance damaging them :P

  3. I suffer from all of these except the bookmarker collecting habit which I broke 12 years ago ...for the most part. I still have a few string bookmarks that i either made myself or bought and keep but dont use.

  4. I have all the same bad bookish habits. I also have to add putting books on hold at the library to my list of bad habits. More often than not, my holds are maxed out (I can only have 40 things on hold at once), because I'm one of the YA fiction selectors for my library system. I know as soon as we've ordered new YA fiction, and I put most of those things on hold as soon as we've ordered them. I probably only read about 50 percent of them, because by the time I get them, I either don't remember why I wanted to read it, or I'm not interested in it anymore.

  5. I second all of yours although I have been working on it (& doing a pretty good job). I'm still really bad at the bookmark thing.

I guess right now my bad habit is taking too long to pass my read books on. They are in stacks everywhere even though I pass the library every day and I could just drop them off in two seconds lol
