There’s a storm coming. From all sides. And then some.

Nick Merrick, can you keep it together?

My Thoughts:

I really didn’t think it was possible to love the Merrick brothers any more but somehow Brigid has managed to pull it off. Each book in the series has made me fall for them all over again. All of the brothers are…well they’re the shit.

Some series will drop off after a book or two, or three but that’s definitely not the case with this one. I have very much enjoyed every book & novella in the series.  I don’t think I could even pick a favorite among them. In other words, if you haven’t read this series, what the heck are you waiting for?!

Audiobook Review: Stained by Cheryl Rainfield

My Thoughts:

I won this audiobook from the author but that in no way affected my review.

Stained was the first audiobook I listened to and I was instantly hooked. I’m hooked on audiobooks and more importantly I was hooked on Stained. It only took me an evening and part of the next morning to listen to the entire book which was almost 8 hours. Cheryl’s writing is so powerful. She broaches very difficult subjects like kidnapping and bullying, but she always manages to infuse a sense of hope into her books.

The things Sarah goes through are beyond horrible and even more heartbreaking is knowing that people experience these things in real life. Stained will make you take a look around and realize how much we take for granted and how often we judge people without realizing it.

Sarah really is a superhero. She has this fierce determination and such a kind heart. Even though this book has such a difficult subject matter there’s also a light at the end of the tunnel feeling throughout and that’s because of Sarah.

Like I said, I listened to this as an audiobook; it was written and narrated in dual points of view. Each point of view was read by a different narrator. The switching narrators didn’t bother me at all, in fact half the time I didn’t even notice it. It was definitely a good choice for  my first audiobook experience.

My Thoughts:

Angel books aren’t really my bag so I put off reading this one until Krista (Krista’s Dust Jacket) schooled me and told me it’s more about demons. My ears perked up at the word demons and I read it right away. I ended up falling for Sweet Evil. It’s mostly about Nephs who pretty much only exist to do the bidding of their powerful and sometimes quite scary demon parent (Duke’s). Talk about being born into a shitty life! The story obviously isn’t as cut and dry as that but you’ll have to dive into the awesomeness that is Sweet Evil in order to find out more. Just a warning though, this one could leave you with a book hangover as it did with me.

My Thoughts:

Most of the time I read a book and then once I’m finished I immediately begin to loose pieces of it. I guess you could say I’m the love ‘em and leave ‘em type of person when it comes to books. That sounds bad but it’s true, I enjoy books while I’m reading them but most of the time I easily move on after.

Once in a while a book or series will worm its way in further and that’s what happened with both Angelfall and World After. I want this series to be a neverending story because I simply cannot get enough of Penryn, Raffe, DeeDum, Paige, and even Penryn’s mom. Much to his dismay I’m sure, I have even started calling my dog Pookey Bear which is a name that comes up in World After.

World After does NOT, I repeat does NOT suffer the dreaded second book syndrome. I can see myself pimping this series for a very long time.

Love & Other Games Anthology

Love & Other Games
By Ana Blaze, Aria Kane, Kara Leigh Miller, & Melinda Dozier

Anthology
Genre: New Adult, Romance
Publisher: Swoon Romance

Goodreads Summary:

LOVE AND OTHER GAMES is a collection of four sexy new adult stories centered around athletes competing in the Winter Games by Ana Blaze, Melinda Dozier, Aria Kane, and Kara Leigh Miller.

Worth More Than Gold by Ana Blaze

Amy Pierce, the klutzy sister and manager of America’s Skating Sweetheart, is used to being invisible. But when a friend drags her to a party near the Olympic Village, Amy catches the eye of a sexy Norwegian ski jumper. It’s a magical night, but an awkward next morning has her running.

Everyone knows that Erik Andersen’s best shot at an individual medal was back in 2010, before an injury pulled him from the competition. He’s there for his team, but a hot night and a remarkable final training session have him wondering if a gorgeous good-luck charm could give him another chance at the podium.

With a little bit of luck, these two might have a shot at something worth more than gold.

Trouble With Gold by Melinda Dozier

US snowboarder and notorious prankster, Ty (Trouble) Madsen is only getting a taste of his own medicine when his Olympic teammates shackle him to a fence wearing nothing but his boxers.

Reception and protocol volunteer, Nadia Hoffman, gets up close and personal with the sexy snowboarder to rescue him, but she’s not the kind of girl who lets her hormones get in her way. A professional performance could help her land her dream job at the Olympics Committee Headquarters, but her new assignment supervising the rambunctious US Snowboarding Team is making that difficult. Can she see behind the snowman in the community center bathroom and into the heart of the man everyone calls Trouble?

The Girl Behind the Gold by Aria Kane

Greek aerial skier Lia Milonas’s parents are about to lose the family farm. Saving it means medaling and landing a huge sponsor. While her no-nonsense attitude has her well on her way to a medal, it hasn’t won her place in fans’ hearts.

“Come back with a story that will make readers cry, or don’t come back.” This is what Brandon James’ boss told him before he left New York to cover the Winter Games for Moment Magazine. With a wink and a smile, he can charm his way into any invite-only party, but that career-making story is nowhere to be found – until he meets Lia.

The two strike a deal that should get them both what they want – but neither would have guessed they’d also find what they need.

Ice Gold by Kara Leigh Miller

Colton Campbell thrives on the fast paced, adrenaline rushed lifestyle of being an Olympic hockey player.

Despite Brenna Jessup’s abhorrence for the games and the athletes, she’s hand-picked as the official photographer for the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team.

When a faux pas by Brenna almost costs Colton his career, she owes him. Too bad for her, Colton doesn’t want apologies – he wants retribution! And he knows just how to get it – and her – in the process.

My Thoughts:

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest opinion.

I really liked that all four of these stories are connected and not just by location and general time frame, there are other small details that tied them together as well. Quick appearances from characters in previous stories, events, and a good luck charm theme all helped to make this feel more like a four part book rather than an anthology with unrelated stories.

I enjoyed the entire anthology but I’d have to say my favorite was Worth More Than Gold which is actually the last story. It made me laugh a few times so it won me over just a little more than the others.

My Thoughts:

This isn’t my first run in with gargoyles in fiction but it’s by far the best and although it’s not a full length book, Bitter Sweet Love is my favorite JLA/J.Lynn book so far. I fell for both Jas and Dez and I’m really hoping to see them again in White Hot Kiss. I’m also very interested in the Bitter Sweet Love side characters, Layla, Zayne, and our mystery demon who will be the main characters in the next book!!

I love this cover, it's so girly and pretty :). It also represents the two locations, in the description, really well.
