Series: Some Quiet Place #1
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Mystery

I can’t weep. I can’t fear. I’ve grown talented at pretending.

Elizabeth Caldwell doesn’t feel emotions…she sees them. Longing, Shame, and Courage materialize around her classmates. Fury and Resentment appear in her dysfunctional home. They’ve all given up on Elizabeth because she doesn’t succumb to their touch. All, that is, save one – Fear. He’s intrigued by her, as desperate to understand the accident that changed Elizabeth’s life as she is herself.

Elizabeth and Fear both sense that the key to her past is hidden in the dream paintings she hides in the family barn. But a shadow menace has begun to stalk her, and try as she might, Elizabeth can barely avoid the brutality of her life long enough to uncover the truth about herself. When it matters most, will she be able to rely on Fear to save her?

My Thoughts:

I recently read a book where there are thousands of earths existing on different planes and then I jump into Some Quiet Place where emotions are in human form. What if there really are thousands of earths existing on different planes? What if when we’re happy, afraid, or sad that emotion really is a person standing behind us with their hand resting on our shoulder? Are you feeling Joy as you blog hop on this beautiful Monday? Look behind you because you may see her standing there.

Some Quiet Place was strangely addicting. I didn’t fly through it but at the same time I couldn’t keep my hands off it. I mean, how can you like a character or feel for a character if they have no emotions? How can you get to know them if you can’t experience their guilt, joy, fear, or anything else? I can’t answer those questions for you but know that it’s possible. Kelsey Sutton manages to turn an unfeeling person into a great character. She also makes a great character out of Fear, she makes you like someone whose very presence can make you see all the worst things in this world.

If you’re looking for a young adult book with a unique fantasy element then definitely consider checking out Some Quiet Place.

  1. OH my gosh dagnabit girl I am SO glad you loved this! I was wondering who else I knew might enjoy this one as much as me! I should have known it would be you.

So that other thousands of earths on a different plane was the The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett that you read? It has the same premise!
