Shelf Candy Saturday (12): Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

Shelf Candy Saturday is hosted by Five Alarm Book Reviews.

Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2) by Laini Taylor

In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed "Daughter of Smoke and Bone," Karou must come to terms with who and what she is, and how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, mysteries and secrets, new characters and old favorites, Days of Blood and Starlight brings the richness, color and intensity of the first book to a brand new canvas.

Black and white with red is such a dramatic color combination. The red is very eye catching and the design is beautiful. I also like the intensity in her eyes. I feel like I'm being stared at as I type this, haha. Part of me wishes I could see more of her face but having it covered also adds a teensy bit of mystery.

  1. Blue is one of my favorite colors so you'd think I'd like the first cover better, but for some reason I really like this one. I think because you can see her eyes better and they're staring at you lol. I agree that the red really pops and since her face is covered it is still mysterious. I wonder what the third cover will look like if there is one. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. I agree! Blue is my fav color and I love seeing covers with blue but the first of this series didn't draw me in. Which is a shame because I wanted to love it. I think maybe if the feather mask had more defined detail to make it more dramatic I would have liked it more?

    2. Hey, I read your reply to HarleyBear after I posted my comment. It's nice that you, too, like blue! Honestly, it's absolutely the most beautiful color there is in the universe! :)

  2. Hi! Thanks for commenting on my Shelf Candy post!! Greatly appreciated!! <3 I think this cover is just GORGEOUS. Red is not my favorite color (in fact, I love blue, just like HarleyBear!), but sometimes I run across stunning red covers, like this one. Of course, I love the cover of "Daughter of Smoke and Bone", but I also love this one. Both covers are very bold and dramatic, and both hide Karou's face, too. The cover of the first book pulled me right in, and I bought and read that novel. This cover is also pulling me in! I also want to find out what happens with Karou and Akiva. I guess I'd buy this second book just for that, but it does help that the cover rocks!! Thanks for featuring it!! :)
